Drawing and painting plants especially wild ones, is my ruling passion. Every trip to the country side whether as a walker, passenger in a train or bus is with one thought in mind - what is growing out there? When I can get down into the undergrowth and see these natural wonders I am filled with joy. Sometimes I draw plants from life but when this is not convenient or practical I simply photograph them from every angle - the whole plant, and close up portions of it and I carefully make notes on the leaves and their method of attachment to the stem, the environment (field, woodland, sea cliff), and any other details I think relevant. So that when I get back home to my studio I feel familiar with the plant I am about to illustrate.
